Service-Area Pages: The Cheapest Local SEO You're Ignoring

Getting Found6 min read

People do not search for 'electrician.' They search for 'electrician near me' or 'electrician Winter Park,' and Google answers with businesses it believes actually work there. If your site never names the town, you are asking Google to guess.

What a service-area page is

One real page per town or neighborhood you genuinely serve, covering what you do there, what the housing stock is like, and proof you have worked there. Not a homepage clone with the town name swapped in — Google has been able to spot that for a decade and it does nothing.

  • The specific services you run in that town
  • Something true and local: the age of the homes, the common panel type, the permit office, the well water
  • A review or job photo from that area
  • Your response window for that drive
Five honest town pages beat fifty generated ones, every time.

Why it works so well for trades

National competitors cannot fake local detail, and most of your local competitors will not bother writing it. That leaves a genuinely winnable gap in exactly the searches that turn into paid work, which is rare in any kind of marketing.

The honest limits

Do not make a page for a town you would not actually drive to. You will rank for it, get the call, and either turn down the work or take a job with a margin the windshield time eats. Coverage you cannot serve is worse than no coverage.

Start with the three towns where you already do the most work. Write them properly. Add one a month after that and you will have built something in a year that a competitor cannot buy their way past.
